Overview


Multan is a rich city in its history and famous for its arts and crafts. For training in visual art, creative and applied art the Department of Fine Arts was established in former Govt. Degree College for Women Multan in 1976.  Initially with FA Fine arts program but later due to the keen interest of students the graduation BA fine arts program was added in 1985.  This department was renamed as Art & Design Department in 2013 under The Women University Multan.

 To promote and update art education according to the recent modern techniques, trends and critical creative thinking the four years professional BFA program will be added soon while one year diploma program in drawing & paintings is available now.

 Our aim is to provide platform and learner-centered environment to the students that help them to develop independent thought and confidence in their practice, as well as transferable skills suitable for employment in the creative industries. Studying both the theory and practice of fine arts means they will be able to take critical approach to their work and think about it in the wider context of art history.

The Art & Design department aims to provide creative curriculum, technical development, and engaging opportunities that will ignite a personal passion for every student enrolled in an Art & Design course. Our mission is to provide research based art education and giving young professionals a vision that is to equip them with the traditional and modern languages of Art. The department main focus is:

  • To provide quality of art education learning environment to future female learners.
  • To produced skilled professionals and researchers for art institutes or industry.
  • To ensure the contribution of the Department in the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • To provide art awareness in this region.
  • To make this department as a best art institution place for females.

Objectives

Students successfully completing the requirements of the Art and Design degrees should be able to do the following:

  • Understand the non-verbal language of art
  • Develop responses to visual phenomena and organize perceptions and conceptualizations both rationally and intuitively
  • Become familiar with and develop competence in a number of art skills
  • Make valid assessments of quality in works of art
  • Become familiar with the major achievements in the history of art, including the works and intentions of leading artists past and present
  • Understand and evaluate contemporary thinking about art

Dear Students, Welcome to the Department of Art & Design. We offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentrations in studio art, painting and sculpture and course such as photography, ceramics, video, graphic design. Whether it is the design and creation of a painting, sculpture, drawing, photograph, computer-generated imaging, or the study and critical analysis of a great work of art, our curriculum sparks the imagination and sustains lifelong support as students move on to engage in art and design opportunities world-wide. We have developed curriculum that fosters critical thinking and collaborative learning experiences. The Art & Design Department facilitates collaboration while nurturing the individual student’s imagination. In Department we enable creativity and discovery and help you become visual artist and communication designers, storytellers and entrepreneurs. Through curricular innovation and use of advance technologies under the guidance of accomplished faculty you can explore new territories, rise above disciplinary boundaries and became thinkers and makers of the next generations. A look at the curriculum reveals that all Art & Design students take a variety of classes in studio art, photography & video, graphic design, and art history. This common foundation, together with the university’s well-rounded General Education requirements, thoroughly prepares our students for study in their selected discipline. Further, department offers one year diploma programs and a number of art specific clubs for students to engage with. Soon we will introduce Bachelors in Graphic Design and Textile Design.
