Welcome to Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry promotes a culture of intellectual engagement centered on the physical sciences. Using modern pedagogy in the classroom and collaborations between students and faculty in research, it is the goal of the faculty to instill in all students a sense of scientific inquiry that employs systematic, experimental and computational approaches to making and analyzing materials relevant to society and the natural world.

Vision

The Department of Chemistry has broad vision to facilitate academics and professional carrier building in the field of Chemistry and related subjects.

Mission

We are committed to transform research ranging from sustainable energy technologies to human disease. We are striving to contribute towards a sustainable society through chemistry education, research, and service via interdisciplinary and international collaborative discovery, mentoring & leadership, and economic impact through technology transfer & entrepreneurship

  • Provide students extension of advanced instrumentation lab facility to other universities for strong collaboration and to promote entrepreneur.
  • Increase leadership and participation in interdisciplinary and collaborative research
  • Offer M. Phil and Ph. D in Physical Chemistry. There is number of students interested in physical chemistry as major subject. Recently both programs cannot be launched due to shortage of faculty.
  • Maintain excellence in existing disciplinary strength areas through hiring and retaining outstanding faculty.
  • Hire based on needs and attrition
  • Increase scientific diversity of faculty
  • Increase demographic diversity of faculty
  • Increase faculty awards and recognition – internal and external
  • Publicize faculty achievements

Objectives

The Department of Chemistry is committed to:

  • Provide a broad foundation in chemistry that stresses scientific reasoning and analytical problem solving with a broader perspective.
  • Provide students with the skills required to succeed in their academic and professional carrier.
  • Expose the students to a breadth of experimental techniques using modern instrumentation.
  • Extending the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry and to integrate knowledge of mathematics, physics and other disciplines to a wide variety of chemical problems.
  • Highlighted laboratory skills needed to design, safely conduct and interpret research.
  • Develop the ability to effectively communicate scientific information and research results in written and oral representative forums
  • It aims to develop high quality professionals and scientists that are committed to pursuit of excellence and are endowed with vision, courage and dedication, improve academic standard in this region and chemists are capable of making significant contribution in the areas of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and related fields.
