The department of History is one of the leading departments of Arts & Social Sciences in the Women University Multan. The department of History & Pak. Studies being the center of national education excellence inculcates critically thinking, complex reasoning, in-depth and research based knowledge. This will help the students to meet the national, regional and global socio-economic and political challenges. It also provides a platform to the students to shine brighter in their academics research but they will also become more tolerant and responsible citizen. It preserves the traditions and cultural values of a nation, and serves as a beacon light, guiding society in confronting various crises. History is indeed considers as a bridge connecting the past with the present and pointing the road to the future.

The department is offering various programs as BS- History (4 years), Associate degree program (ADP) 04 year, Bridge semester History & Pakistan Studies (5^th semester to onward), MPhil History (02 years) and PhD (04 years) programs in the History.

The History Department seeks to build its students transferable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies, through teaching, research and service activities conducted locally, statewide, regionally, nationally ,and internationally. A graduate of the Department should be knowledgeable, research oriented, and skillful having a balanced analytical approach and world view. He should be keen to serve the humanity without any racial, regional or religious discrimination. It will make them a useful citizen not only of his native land but a source of positive social change within his global village. It embodies a vision of becoming a leader in providing cutting edge education in emerging and traditional fields of arts and social sciences. The programs offered by the department aspire to connect an innovation-based knowledge hub with the contemporary societal needs. There is a growing need for the student of this era to understand and grasp the social, political and economic realities of the 21st century.

The History Department values a skilled, critically aware and informed citizenry: an honest academic and public engagement with the past its meanings, and its consequences for today and the promotion and support of History and social studies education. Moreover, our mission is to modify the skills of the students by offering them such academic courses and to generalize their skills of observation and experimentation. By achieving the higher degree of academic excellence the students are prepared for the brighter future. Different programs offered by the department open new horizons for the further experimentation in the educational fields and eventually career setting opportunities are being delivered to the degree holder students.

Mission

The mission of the department is to impart knowledge to the students. Similarly to develop the student's own historical understanding and applying it in the present situation. It prepares students for a wide range of careers by teaching a core set of transferable skills through the study of societies, cultures and economies across a broad chronological and geographical spectrum.

Historical study plays an important part in fostering well-rounded intellectual development as well as instilling valuable career skills in research, writing and documentation. It also provide an opportunity of studying other people’s ideas and programs with the aim of developing own ideology. A history graduate is prepared for all sorts of employment positions that involve reading, conducting research, writing summaries of their research findings, and interpreting historical facts. A person who specializes in the study of history has developed these and other research skills that will prove helpful in almost any career endeavor.

The study of history helps teachers in training to appreciate the various aspects of their past Historical process so as to link them to the present.
It enables teachers in training to know what type of education we had and the purpose it served in the past.
It gives teachers in training the opportunity of knowing our past mistakes in our society and system with the view to making necessary amendments.
History gives teachers in training the opportunity of studying other people’s ideas and programs with the aim of developing ours.
It also gives teachers in training a solid foundation to plan for our present and future socio-cultural and political development.
History guides teachers in training to proffer some positive solution to our present day social, political, economic and administrative problems

Objectives

After completing their studies in the Department of History the graduates will be able to:

Demonstrate keen understanding of the subject of History in general and more specifically in their chosen area of interest.
Display professionalism and universal good values of good citizenship.
To become a valuable member of society.
Student will be able to identify and describe the contours and stakes of conversation among peoples and within defined historical field.
Student will learn to apply historical method to evaluate critically the record of the past and how people interpreted it.
Student will acquire basic historical research skill including the effective use of libraries archives and databases.
Student will be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of national events and historical periods as well as highlight their significance.
