Department of Environmental Science

Department of Environmental Sciences was established in 2017 in The Women University, Multan (WUM) at Mattital campus to provide prospective students with extensive knowledge, understanding and skills to preserve, protect and rehabilitate the local and global environment and build a sustainable future. Degree programs offered by the Department of Environmental Sciences after getting NOC from HEC, Pakistan are BS Environmental Sciences (4-years) and M.Phil. Environmental Sciences (2 years). Department of has transformed itself to face the challenges of new era. Keeping in view the requirements of new era, it is the priority of the department to shift its academic and research activities from traditional domain of Environmental Science to Geographical Information System (GIS). Currently, department is endeavoring to excel in academics and research in the field of Environmental Science. To meet the academic and research requirement of the modern era, department will provide education and conducting research in the fields of environmental sciences and Geographical Information System (GIS). The Department has highly qualified and competent faculty having Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degrees and research experience from reputable national and international universities.

Department of Environmental Sciences focuses on environmental effects of human activity and is dedicated to protecting and restoring natural heritage, minimizing human impact and restoring environmental degradation.

Our mission is a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research that will better enable our society to manage our environment and resources. Environmental Sciences gives an understanding of both natural and human induced environmental problems, focus on real world issues and application, such as food security, climate change, energy security, pollution and natural hazards.

The curriculum of the Botany department has been developed under the guideline of Higher Education Commission to cover all the recent areas of Environmental Sciences. Undergraduate courses are designed to add interdisciplinary skills to strengths in a particular scientific discipline.

Teaching laboratories in the institute are reasonably equipped with scientific equipment. As an adequate collection of text books and reference book is available in the library. Department has qualified faculty environment and resources. After completing the studies at department of Botany the graduates will be able to:

• Assist in the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment through manpower and knowledge development.
• Demonstrate skills and knowledge about the fields of Environmental Science and related subjects.
• Develop an understanding of the physical landscape and how society impacts on the environment.
• Investigate environmental issues from various perspectives, including scientific, political, legal and philosophical positions in order to draw their solutions.
• Deal with local and global environmental issues both academically and practically.
• Play an important role in national development by its involvement in national and international committees, development projects and activities, the conductance of applied research, dissemination of research findings, creating awareness on environmental issues among the general public etc.
