Chairperson Message

Dr. Sadia Mussaraf
Associate Professor
Psychology is a hub discipline that bridges various disparate fields such as biology, education, sociology, health, business, marketing, organizational behavior, and neuroscience. Studying Psychology is necessary to understand the fundamental building blocks of human behavior and is integral for addressing the current societal issues. Many of the world’s biggest challenges are inherently behavioral in nature such as drug addiction, mental disorders, poor wellbeing, discrimination, aggression, violence, terrorism, and climate change. Our outstanding faculty and students conduct groundbreaking theoretical and applied research in various areas of Psychology aimed at addressing important individual and societal problems. We have 4 full-time faculty members who have received awards and recognition for their teaching and scholarship. We each have our areas of specialization in psychology and we provide a range of courses. Our prime goal is to ensure that undergraduate students will be exposed to the many different areas of psychology. We also provide plenty of flexibility so students can select advanced courses in the areas that particularly interest them. Our mission is to provide a teaching-learning environment where students can thrive and prepare themselves to be successful upon graduation. Our department provides many opportunities for students who choose to major in Psychology at our university. Students learn beyond the classroom through internships in clinical settings as well as participate in empirical research with faculty members in independent studies. We do our very best to provide a positive educational experience for our students. Our graduates have gone on to enjoy rewarding careers with mental health agencies, hospitals, schools, and drug and rehabilitation centers, as well as business careers such as human factors specialists, corporate consultants, managers, and industrial counselors.
