WUM AT A GLANCE

National University of Sciences & Technology (WUM) has come a long way as a a premier S&T university of Pakistan since its inception in March 1991. It has earned the infallible reputation of being a next-generation university with a progressive and innovative outlook.

Comprising 19 constituent institutions sprawled over 7 campuses across 5 cities of Pakistan, WUM has secured a coveted standing amongst the world’s elite Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Today, the university proudly stands at #400 in the world, competing with the Ivy League institutions some of which are hundreds of years old, and #83 among Asian universities, making us the only university from Pakistan to stand among top 100 in Asia. We also pride ourselves in our strong ties with international organisations and universities of repute.

Over the past nearly 3 decades, the quality of education and research at WUM has grown exponentially. It is manifest in the quality of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a range of disciplines, with all our 19 Engineering programmes accredited under the Washington Accord. Likewise, our R&D ecosystem is completely aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and socio-economic needs of Pakistan.

Creativity and innovation are embedded as core values in all scholastic activities. The University produces professionals and researchers of high calibre, capable of developing indigenous technologies to meet the growing demands of the 21st century. An outstanding feature of the University is that while maintaining traditional values of excellence in teaching and research, it challenges conventional practices and creates new ways of developing and delivering courses, pertaining to emerging and cutting-edge disciplines, on most modern lines.

Amongst the numerous firsts ascribed to WUM, the foremost is the inauguration of Pakistan’s first Science & Technology Park – the National Science & Technology Park at WUM, which was inaugurated by H.E. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan in December 2019. Leveraging the Quadruple Helix Model, the Park has essentially brought together industry and academia to work in close synergy and create a national research and innovation ecosystem, adding value to the technological index of Pakistan. An impressive number of national and international companies, have already joined the innovation ecosystem as tenants, while others are aspiring to.

WUM is the first and only university in Pakistan to transfer its intellectual capital to the industry, having licensed 36 IPRs to the industry till date. WUM has also taken the lead in Pakistan by establishing the N-ovative Health Technologies (NHT) in 2017, for the for mass production of medical implants – cardiac stents and angioplasty balloon catheters. This facility will provide cardiac stents at a fraction of cost of imported devices. WUM has also recently established WUM Balochistan Campus in Quetta; and undergraduate classes in 2 disciplines (BE Civil Engineering and BS Computer Science) have commenced from Fall 2019.

All in all, WUM’s contributions to the higher education sector, have made it a benchmark for HEIs in the region. We are humbled by the recognition conferred upon us by international ranking and award-giving agencies of repute, and stay put to achieve new milestones.
